Every program at K-9 Motivation is customized to the individual needs of each dog, and the goals and needs of each client. Obedience training is at the core of our philosophy to establish a method of communication with our dogs and to be used as a tool to teach or modify a wide variety of behavior, as well as to prepare a dog for advanced disciplines and activities.

All training and activities at K-9 Motivation are by appointment only. Please call 815/482-0339 or email kirk@k-9motivation.com for details.

A thorough behavioral and wellness evaluation is conducted prior to training at no charge in order to determine the type of program that is best suited for the owner and their dog. Pricing varies accordingly.

We firmly believe in one-on-one sessions to maximize the effectiveness of time and money spent with each dog/client. In group classes some dogs/owners may be too distracted to learn effectively. Classes offer an affordable setting that can be great fun for you and your dog but may not be the best setting for novice handlers learning basic obedience so we utilize group sessions for more advanced training.

  • Private Lessons are preferred when an owner desires education for themselves, to improve handling skills, or wants to be directly involved in the training of a dog. They rely on the owner to perform the majority of the work between sessions but allow them to progress together with their dog subject to their level of effort and commitment.
  • Residency training, also known as Board-and-Train or Boot Camp is recommended when an owner doesn't have the ability or time to train their dog themselves and wants a professional to do it for them. Whether learning simply to walk politely on a leash, learning advanced commands or modifying behavior; this is the most effective type of training and comes with the advantage of guarantees.
  • Group sessions promote socialization, enforce training around distractions and are used to target specific goals or problems involving living with other people/dogs.

These settings are explained, discussed and selected in agreement with each dog owner to suit their needs and applied to various disciplines including:

  • Puppy Pre-School Education
  • On Leash Training
    • Basic Obedience
    • Intermediate Obedience
    • Advanced Obedience
  • Off Leash Training
  • Behavior Modification/Counseling
  • Canine Good Citizen Preparation
  • Service Dog Training
  • Therapy Dog Assessment & Training
  • Utility/Agility Training
