Ben One half of the Ben and Jerry tag-team; this dog was somewhat shy at first but once he got into basic obedience he proved that the little guys can perform with any other breed. Sometimes Chihuahuas have the reputation as being nasty little dogs. Ben is sweet and fun and smart.
Max Max didn't like going into his crate. He didn't like coming out of his crate. He was fine if you were right in front of him but touch him from behind and you were likely to get bit. Add in an issue with other dogs and we determined that Max had 'Small Dog Syndrome'. We started working obedience with him and he made some good progress but some long term behavior modification is in order for this guy and we can only hope his owners will make the commitment.
'Oh by the way, Tater doesn't walk or do stairs'. That was how we were introduced to our first Shih Tzu. Once he started being treated like a dog instead of a child he learned to love going up and down the stairs, he walks just fine, coming in and out of his crate wasn't a trauma and unlike his owners, he never did bite us. Receiving any sort of command was a new experience for him, but ongoing motivation and praise got him through basic obedience. We then educated the owners to take charge in a kind way and set some new expectations for this guy. We saw Tater again about a year later and he is doing well. His owners took making some changes seriously and it shows.
Zoe is a real dog. Sometimes we want to think the toy dogs are something less than that, but not this guy. He's 8 lbs. but with a much larger personality. Leann thought that Zoe had house training issues and really didn't know what to do about it. We took him in for a week of boot camp and he rocked! Obedience training, no problem. Playing with German Shepherds and Mastiffs…bring it. We loved his attitude and once he got on a proper schedule, no house training issues at all.
