Jackson Tough guy from the streets of Baltimore; Jackson didn't like anyone he didn't know coming near the crate and had a tendency to threaten people with a growl and a curled lip on occasion. We had to push him pretty hard in training, but once he was getting consistent praise for commands he came through just fine.
Harper Working with Harper was such a great experience in so many ways. First off we had never seen a Klee Kai before; even today the breed is very much in development. Essentially they are miniature or even toy sized Huskies. Harper had several real behavioral issues as a puppy but through dedicated socialization and desensitization a colleague was able to get her to the point where hyperactivity seemed to be the main concern. She proved to be smart and trainable once we got her to slow down enough, but throughout she was highly entertaining to say the least. Thankfully she was only 6-8 pounds at the time. I don't think any other dog has made us laugh so much.
Izzy B It was the middle of Izzy B's stay with us when the owner called to see how we were dealing with her behavioral issues. Having gone through the list and indicating to her that we weren't having any problems she asked, 'how do you do that?' We responded simply that Izzy wasn't allowed to behave like that here. Training is a wonderful thing, but after all we still have to take charge and control our dogs. Sometimes the answer just has to be DON'T LET THEM DO IT.
Zimmer To look at Zimmer's picture you would never think that she was going to bite you. But this girl suffers from a bit of 'small dog syndrome' probably brought on by living with her larger, hyperactive Border Collie sister. We started training ZimZim as we called her and at first her fearfulness was plain to see, but soon she started gaining confidence and was much less touchy about being handled. That gave way to her really enjoying working, walking and playing with us. What a nice dog, Poodles rock.
